Terence the Turtle

So what is the fuss with turtles ? I don't mean real turtle #savetheturtles, but like the crochet ones? I feel like its something every crocheter has done. Maybe it's the

ease of the pattern or the fact they are cute and cuddly, I don't know. But because of its popularity i did tend to stay away from it, however that has now changed.

Caught up in the whole "I am going to do a market" phase I decided I needed quick and easy pattern that I know are seller and I can work up in batches. So time to find a pattern. I knew because of the commonness of this work up there would be some really good free pattern so I hit google hard trying to find a good one.

So I knew I would be using flutterby yarn so I needed a pattern designed for chunky yarn when I stumbled upon this pattern. It was simple and worked up quick. I think this pattern took me 3 hours in whole, which is a typically fast pattern for me.

So It's worked in stages, you complete the fins first two larger and two small, these are just standard magic rings folded in half and crocheted together. A simple idea to make cute shapes. Next is the tail which is once again just a small Magic ring worked in continuous rounds to create the tail shape. The head was a bit different because of the shape but once again it was a simple work up. At this point I could understand why this was a popular one for beginners there really is a simple process to follow. The body could be consider more difficult because you have to back loop only to create a shell outside but even that is an easy task once you understand the principle of BLO. After the body all that is left is to sew it together.

The pattern I used wasn't detailed about the placement of each item but there were photos that I could use as a reference for where to sew each item. I used a DK yarn as flutterby is a nightmare for sewing together and if I am safety testing this product it wouldn't hold up again the weight test i would have to do. I decided to add whites to the eyes originalluy but upon further review after some testing I have decided that there not safe and wont be included but the goofy smile is what does it for me. Its a Back stitch technique to ensure it safe for children and I think really add to hid charcter. So after a simple pattern and 3 hours I had my very own turtle.

A very easy project that I can work up quickly, and really recommend for a beginner.
