I'm an all or nothing person, so when I get invested in something, or someone, i want to know everything. These posts are for you. If you not interested in the how and want just the now then scroll up. The making journey starts with Terry the Tiger, but my most recent post will be at the top of the page. As I get past Terry the Blog will become real time, so they will be small and frequent to allow you to follow the process with me.
Now time for The Dino.

So at this point in my journey, I had just discovered Crochet, I had stayed in my bedroom learning and relearning "SC" (Single Crochet) and "DC" (Double Crochet). Now Dyaln is a free pattern I purchased from Hobbii (Dylan the Dinosaur) he also has a similar pattern for a baby comforter. This meant I could do something for my child and my nephew.
The first problem was the magic ring. Sounds easy, even fun. It is not! Oh, don't get me wrong, it's a very simple concept, but doing it Oooooh no. I understood how to make the ring, but the first round I couldn't get right. No matter what I tried I couldn't get the stitches to look right, or the right number of stitches at the end of a round. It was infuriating. But I loved it. I loved how it challenged me and how I was finally finding a craft that could engage my crazy mind.
I completed this pattern in the span of a month or so. Which is good for my first pattern. I also did this pattern while looking after 2 children under 2 and doing other hobbies like drawing etc. I loved the end result, my child did not, I was happy compared to other first attempts I've seen this is really good. However, as most people do, I saw the mistakes and the errors. The face is wonky, the arms aren't level. But all in all I had made a cute cuddly toy with no holes.

Now time to work on the comforter for my nephew. I was under the impression this would be easy I had done the harder pattern right? The teddy must be the harder version surely? Nope. Don't get me wrong this pattern was a lot easier for the fact I had made a similar version for the teddy but there were elements that i hadn't done before which made it difficult.
On the face, the nose was done, but a "Popcorn" stitch this was not fun to learn, having to keep so many loops on my hook was new, and I had to redo this element several times before I was finally happy with it. Then came the body. For this I worked in rows rather than rounds, which was a new one for me. It was a long and tiresome project, but I was watching that light at the end of the tunnel when I could attach it all together and have my work done. That was till I read the pattern closer and realised I needed to do it all again!!!
As you can imagine it was at this point i took a break. The thought of having to do it all over again was discouraging. I believe this project spanned 3 months, but that was because I would pick it up and put it down without really achieving much. This can be seen by the unfinishedness of the project. I'm sure you all already guessed, yes, there's meant to be more spikes. At this point I was really bored of the project and just ready to call it a day on this project and move on. So I did.
He is currently in one of the many toy boxes upstairs barley seen and never played with, so all my hard work was for nothing. But I learnt a lot from him and my stitching has since come a long way.
